Minivans, once associated with soccer moms and family haulers, are undergoing a transformation as some automakers are reimagining them as cool, ultra-luxurious people movers. The latest example of this trend comes from Zeekr, a Chinese electric vehicle company, which will unveil a four-seat version of its 009 minivan on April 19.
While details about the model are scarce at the moment, it is expected to follow in the footsteps of the standard 009 minivan and could potentially be called the 009 Grand. However, the teaser images released by Zeekr provide a glimpse into the opulent interior and exterior enhancements.
On the outside, the four-seat version of the 009 minivan sports a lightly revised exterior design with additional chrome trim and 20-inch "forged disc" wheels. These wheels feature black center caps and an "enchanting laser-etched finish," adding a touch of exclusivity to the vehicle's appearance.
The real showstopper, however, lies within the cabin, where Zeekr has transformed the minivan into a true luxury lounge on wheels. The rear seating area features two individual seats with power leg rests and fancy headrests integrated with speakers, promising an immersive audio experience.
Separating the two rear seats is a unique center console that houses drawers, fold-out tables, and an integrated display. This display appears to control various functions, including the seats, climate control system, and a massive entertainment system that would not look out of place in a living room, although the exact dimensions of the screen are yet to be revealed.
Beyond the impressive entertainment setup, the minivan boasts a rear partition wall and a panoramic glass roof, creating a sense of openness and luxury. Elegant wood trim and distinctive dot-like accents further enhance the upscale ambiance.
While specific details about the four-seat version of the 009 minivan are still under wraps, we can draw some insights from the standard model. The 009 is equipped with a massive 140 kWh battery, delivering an impressive CLTC range of up to 822 km. Additionally, it packs a powerful 536 horsepower, enabling the minivan to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds.
Zeekr has hinted at a hefty price tag for this ultra-luxurious minivan, with a post suggesting that "two seats worth 500,000 yuan ($69,087) in a car" could be a reality.
As we await the official unveiling at Auto China, it's clear that Zeekr is pushing the boundaries of what a minivan can be, transforming it from a practical family hauler into a true luxury experience on wheels.
