BMW revealed its first electric SUV iX3 this week (2021 BMW iX3). The new electric SUV is based on the current generation of X3. BMW introduced its fifth-generation eDrive system for iX3. The EV system contains an electric motor with 282 hp and 400 NM of torque and 80kWh battery pack. BMW iX3 can travel up to 460 km per single charge.
For charging the battery pack. Customers an use 150 kW DC fast charger which can charge 80 percent of the battery in just 34 minutes. This charger can provide 100 km of driving range with 10 minutes of charging.
Unlike the X3, iX3 is not an all-wheel drive car and power only goes to the rear axle. The iX3 can hit 100 kph in 6.8 seconds and can reach the top speed of 180 kph.
BMW iX3 hosts significant visual updates over the conventional ICE-powered X3. changes include blocked grille, aerodynamic 19-inch wheels and blue accents. BMW claims that the new wheels can reduce drag by 5 percent which adds 10 km of driving range for the iX3.
BMW iX3 features adaptive suspension and electronically controlled dampers as standard. BMW also used a new technology to keep the battery pack in a perfect temperature. The electric motor is also cooled by a liquid cooling system.
BMW iX3 will hit Chinese market by the end of the year and by 2021 it will be on sale in the EU. Unfortunately North American buyers can't get an iX3 yet and BMW has no plans to sell this model in the U.S.
