The 2021 Cupra Leon will soon launch in Europe to compete with other hot hatches like the Volkswagen Golf GTI, Honda Civic Type R, and Hyundai i30 N. The new Cupra Leon will be available in both hatchback and station wagon (Spotstourer) body style. The new Cupra Leon is based on the VW MLB Evo platform which is shared with the latest generation VW Golf GTI.
Under the hood, buyers can choose between four different engines. All engines are paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission and unfortunately, there is no manual gearbox available for the new Cupra Leon.
For the first time, Cupra Leon is available with a plug-in hybrid engine. The PHEV unit has a 1.4-liter TSI engine with 147 hp connected to a 113 hp electric motor with a combined output of 242 hp. This model can hit 100 kph in 6.7 seconds and hit the top speed of 225 kph.
The PHEV Cupra Leon can travel up to 60 km on electric-only mode.
The other three engines are all 2.0-liter TSI four-cylinder turbo with 242 hp and 370 nm of torque, 296 hp and 400 nm of torque and 306 hp and 400 nm of torque.
The later is only available on the Sportstourer variant and it comes standard with an all-wheel-drive system.
