Hyundai revealed a new crossover called the Bayon. Hyundai Bayon is the automaker’s smallest crossover with 4.18 m long, 1.77 m wide, and 1.49 m tall. With these measurements, the Bayon is even smaller than the Hyundai Kona which used to be the smallest crossover for the Korean automaker.
It is 2.58 m wheelbase is also shorter than the Kona. while the Bayon is a very small crossover but it offers plenty of luggage space with a normal volume of 411 liters that is extendable to 1205 liters by folding the rear seats.
While Hyundai Bayon is said to be a crossover version for the i20 but it is visually different with its split headlights and new LED taillights. Like the new i20, the Bayon also has a light bar at the rear.
While outside the cabin the new crossover looks different compared to the i20 hatchback but inside the cabin, two cars share more parts, and from the dashboard to the instrument cluster and the switchgear, the Bayon looks identical to the i20.
Under the hood, there is a 1.2-liter gasoline engine with 84 hp connected to a 5-speed manual transmission. This engine is also the same as the one on the i20. There is a more powerful version with a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine that can produce 100 hp. The turbo engine can be connected to either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
There is also a mild-hybrid 1.0-liter engine available for the Bayon with a total output of 120 hp. Unlike its SUV look, none of the versions are equipped with an AWD system and all models are FWD in order to lower the cost.
For now, there is no detail of pricing and release date yet.
