Toyota officially announced the 2021 Toyota Highlander family SUV for the Chinese market on January 28th. Its starting price is 239,000 RMB and on the highest trim, the price can reach 325,000 RMB.
The Chinese specs Toyota Highlander is based on the latest generation which is also available in the global market. Standard exterior features are chrome accents around the grille and LED headlights. The Highlander also comes standard with a 10-inch electronic voice navigation system, which supports the latest car version of the Gaode map. Buyers also can order a brown interior if they like a more luxurious interior. inside the cabin, there are a dual-zone automatic climate control system, leather seats, and steering wheel, multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, power electric sunroof, wood trim, and a touchscreen for the infotainment system.
Under the hood, there is a 2.0-liter twin-scroll turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 220 hp and 350 nm of torque. The engine is the same as what we have seen before on Lexus NX200t and it is connected to a 6-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive system with dynamic torque distribution.
In the global market, the Toyota Highlander is available with a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 296 hp or a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated hybrid engine with 243 hp but Toyota decided to give Chinese buyers a new powertrain.
