The 2023 GMC Canyon has been introduced with a number of visual and technical updates. we are going to take a closer look at the published specification to see what it has to offer. The 2023 GMC Canyon defies conventional wisdom about mid-size pickup trucks by providing a powerful turbocharged engine, a tough AT4X variation, and an opulent Denali grade.
Design-wise, the Canyon's gentle curves have been swapped out for an edgier look and a virtually vertical front fascia that features a noticeable grille and split LED lighting units.
The Canyon boasts an "ultra-wide track" and a normal off-road suspension, so its tough looks go beyond the surface.
Elevation, AT4, and Denali models come with a 51 mm factory elevation for the offroad suspension, while the AT4X has a 76 mm lift. The AT4X has larger 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires, whereas mainstream variants ride on 32-inch tires.
The vehicle has a revised tailgate with large GMC badging, accentuated fenders, and a more conventional greenhouse. In relation to the latter, the tailgate features a built-in storage space that is accessible by lowering the gate and depressing a few releases. The container should be airtight and 1,143 mm wide, though GMC didn't say much about it.
The Canyon will only be accessible as a crew cab with a short bed, just like the Chevy Colorado. The latter is 5' 2" long and has two motorcycle/bicycle tire grooves in addition to a variety of luggage tie-downs. We may also anticipate a 110-volt outlet being accessible and a tailgate that stops halfway down to make it easier to move larger objects like sheets of plywood.
Inside, the interior is revolutionary because to its premium materials, cutting-edge style, and high-tech features including an 8-inch digital instrument cluster. An 11.3-inch infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, as well as readily available Google integration, is added to the latter.
Customers can choose the new AT4X trim if they want to combine luxury with off-road prowess. The model has front and rear e-lockers, Multimatic DSSV shocks, and underbody protection in addition to the lift described before and 33-inch tires. The Normal, Tow/Haul, Terrain, and Off-Road driving modes from common versions are supplemented by a special Baja driving mode.
The Canyon AT4X now has a ground clearance of 272 mm with approach, departure, and break-over angles of 36.9, 25, and 24.5 degrees as a result of all these changes.
The vehicle doesn't scrimp on comfort, as it includes unique leather seats embroidered with AT4X in Obsidian Rush and Ceramic White. Along with power adjustment, the front seats also include heating and ventilation.
Drivers can also expect a 6.3-inch head-up display, an 11-inch digital instrument cluster, and red accents. A seven-speaker Bose music system and adaptive cruise control are further pleasures.
There will be a very small amount of AT4X Edition 1 models available. The trail-ready model boasts a 30-inch light bar, an integrated COMEUP winch, and a beefier front bumper with a safari bar. A unique front skid plate, underbody cameras, a reversible bed rail system, and 17-inch beadlock-capable wheels round out the list of additional attractions.
Although the Canyon does not have Super Cruise, it does have a number of other standard driver assistance features, such as Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking with Bicyclist Detection, and Forward Collision Alert. They are complemented by Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning and IntelliBeam auto high beam headlights.
Rear Cross Traffic Braking and Blind Zone Steering Assist are added by the optional Canyon Safety Plus Package, while Adaptive Cruise Control, Rear Pedestrian Alert, and an HD Surround Vision system are included by the Technology Package. With a cleaning mechanism that can remove dirt and debris, the latter offers up to 10 camera views, including underbody cameras.
The 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that powers the Canyon solely and produces 310 horsepower and 582 pound-feet of torque reflects the vehicle's premium positioning from the inside out. the Colorado, in contrast, provides the base and mid-level 2.7-liter engines with outputs of 237 horsepower and 351 pound-feet of torque as well as 310 horsepower and 528 pound-feet of torque.
Returning to the engine of the Canyon, it only has 2 horsepower more than the previous 3.6-liter V6. However, there has been a significant boost as the torque rating increases by 210 Nm, surpassing the original 2.8-liter turbodiesel by 83 Nm.
An eight-speed automatic transmission that can be paired with rear- or four-wheel drive is coupled to the engine. The Canyon has a maximum payload of 744 kg and a towing capacity of up to 3,493 kg, however, the manufacturer failed to provide estimates for its fuel efficiency. The AT4 and Denali both come standard with a limited-slip differential.
Early in 2023, the GMC Canyon will begin manufacturing, and the AT4X version will follow in the following spring. Speaking of the latter, GMC is now taking AT4X Edition 1 bookings, with prices starting at $63,350.
Given that the starting price of the 2022 Canyon Elevation Crew Cab Short Box V6 was $30,485, the entry-level Canyon Elevation will start at roughly $40,000.
