The Cadillac Optiq, set to enter the competitive electric vehicle market with an estimated price tag of $54,000, is gearing up to face stiff competition from established players like the Tesla Model Y Performance, which is available for $51,490 before incentives. This new entry-level EV from Cadillac aims to carve out its niche despite the challenge posed not only by Tesla but also by Cadillac’s own higher-end Lyriq, which starts at $58,590.
In terms of dimensions, the Optiq is 4,820 mm long, 2,126 mm wide, and 1,644 mm tall, with a wheelbase measuring 2,954 mm. While Cadillac has rounded these numbers rather oddly, they claim the wheelbase is 152 mm shorter than the Lyriq’s. However, looking at the Chinese-spec model, the actual difference might be a more modest 140 mm.
Despite these questionable figures, the Optiq boasts a Lyriq-inspired interior, featuring a 33-inch display with Google built-in. Additionally, it comes equipped with a 19-speaker AKG audio system and promises best-in-class cargo capacity and second-row spaciousness. The interior also showcases metallic accents and a mix of leather and fabric upholstery. Standard features include Super Cruise and a suite of driver assistance systems such as adaptive cruise control, forward collision alert, and blind zone steering assist.
So, what does the US-spec Optiq bring to the table? It offers a standard dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing an estimated 300 hp and 479 Nm of torque. Built on the Ultium platform, it houses an 85 kWh battery pack that promises a range of around 483 km. While Cadillac was tight-lipped about additional specifics, they mentioned that the model could achieve up to 127 km of range in approximately 10 minutes using a DC fast charger.
Cadillac didn't divulge much more about the crossover, but it features a Lyriq-like design, complete with a black crystal grille, choreographed lighting sequences, and a fixed glass roof. Other notable design elements include flush-mounted door handles and acoustic laminated rear quarter glass with a unique design.
Production of the 2025 Optiq is set to commence this fall, and it will be available in both Luxury and Sport trims. More detailed information about the US-spec model will likely emerge as the launch date approaches. In addition to the US market, the crossover will be sold in Europe and China, where it was unveiled exactly one month ago.
