2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Revealed

The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 is set to redefine power in American automotive history, boasting the most potent V-8 engine ever seen in a production car from the United States. This latest iteration of the ZR1 lives up to its legacy as the heavyweight in the Corvette lineup, breaking new ground with its unprecedented output of over 1,000 horsepower.

At the heart of the all-new ZR1 lies a formidable twin-turbo 5.5-liter flat-plane crank V8 engine, churning out an astounding 1,064 horsepower and 1,121 Nm of torque, all directed to the rear wheels. This powerhouse features a larger combustion chamber and newly designed head castings with distinctive ports. Additionally, the valve timing and lift profile have been finely tuned for forced induction. Other enhancements include a new intake system and innovative anti-lag engine calibration techniques. Unique pistons and connecting rods, along with a secondary fuel injection system, further underline the engine's advanced design.

The upgrades are not confined to the engine alone. The eight-speed dual-clutch transmission has undergone a comprehensive overhaul, incorporating wider profile gears, stronger shafts, and enhanced lubrication systems. These modifications are crucial for managing the immense torque generated by the LT7 engine.

Performance is a key theme for the ZR1, and this is evident in its testing results. Four test drivers managed to reach 322 km/h on the Nürburgring during their initial run. On the drag strip, the ZR1 is expected to complete the quarter mile in under 9.7 seconds, reaching speeds of up to 241 km/h. While impressive, this time is slightly behind the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170, which covers the same distance in 8.91 seconds at 243 km/h.

The ZR1's performance credentials are all the more remarkable given its relatively lightweight construction. The coupe version tips the scales at 1,665 kg dry, while the convertible variant weighs in at 1,705 kg. Despite this, the ZR1 is equipped with a distinctive carbon ceramic braking system, featuring discs measuring 400 mm at the front and 390 mm at the rear. This setup allows the car to decelerate from 322 km/h to 129 km/h and back to 322 km/h in just 24.5 seconds, significantly faster than its predecessors.

One of the most noticeable features of the new ZR1 is its flow-through hood, designed to enhance cooling and increase front downforce. Air enters through the front grille, passes through an intercooler, and exits via the hood. The exterior is further distinguished by a carbon fiber roof and an adjustable small spoiler. Buyers can choose between 20- and 21-inch carbon fiber or aluminum wheels, fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. The ZR1 also sports numerous carbon fiber elements, including the front splitter, rocker moldings, side intakes, and front underwing, alongside brake cooling ducts and 15 heat exchangers.

The ZR1 will be available as both a coupe and a convertible, with the coupe featuring a split rear window—a design element that quietly returned with the Z06 GT3.R race car and now makes its way into a production model for the first time in decades. This modern twist on a classic design includes a carbon fiber spine that separates the two panels, incorporating functional vents to improve engine compartment heat extraction.

For those seeking an even more track-focused experience, the optional ZTK performance package transforms the ZR1 into a true track weapon. This package includes a massive rear wing, front dive planes, and a hood-mounted Gurney lip, along with underbody strakes that replace the front underwing to increase downforce. Additionally, the package features stiffer springs, revised dampers, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R tires.

Alternatively, the Carbon Aero package offers all the aerodynamic enhancements of the ZTK package without the mechanical upgrades. This package allows the ZR1 to generate over 544 kg of downforce at top speed, enhancing stability and handling.

Inside, the ZR1 retains a familiar layout, with minor updates to distinguish it from previous models. Notable interior features include ZR1 badging on the steering wheel, sill plates, and an interior plaque. The 3LZ variant also boasts unique door panel stitching and a boost gauge. Standard equipment is expected to include a 12-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8-inch infotainment system with Google built-in, complemented by supportive seats and abundant carbon fiber trim.

Production of the Corvette ZR1 will commence next year in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Although pricing details have yet to be announced, the ZR1 will be positioned above the Z06, which starts at $110,100. The early unveiling was necessary to test prototypes without camouflage, as the disguise impacted the car’s performance. As the testing phase concludes, more detailed specifications and pricing will be revealed.
