Hyundai Motor Group (HMG) has issued a recall for approximately 54,000 of its high-performance vehicles due to a faulty fuel control valve in the high-pressure fuel pump. The recall affects the 2019 Genesis G70, 2019-2022 Hyundai Veloster N, 2022-2023 Hyundai Elantra N, and 2022-2023 Hyundai Kona N models equipped with the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine.
The issue was first discovered in July 2023 when Hyundai received reports of a rich air-to-fuel ratio check engine light in some vehicles. After an extensive investigation, the manufacturer determined that a faulty fuel control valve was allowing excess fuel into the pump, leading to several potential problems.
Owners of affected vehicles may experience symptoms such as a "limp mode" limiting power above 60 mph, misfires, a rough idle, or a noticeable lack of power. These issues are a direct result of the faulty fuel control valve causing the engine to run rich.
Hyundai has announced that a new fuel pump with an updated fuel control valve, along with revised ECM software, will be installed in affected vehicles to rectify the problem. Notably, vehicles built after October 15, 2023, are not affected by this recall as the faulty part was revised on that date.
If you own one of the affected models, it's important to be aware of the potential warning signs and to contact your local Hyundai dealer or check the NHTSA website to determine if your vehicle is included in the recall. Hyundai has stated that they are not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.
This recall serves as a reminder of the importance of staying informed about safety recalls and promptly addressing any issues with your vehicle. By doing so, you can help ensure the safety and reliability of your Hyundai.
