Alpine Alpenglow HY6 Hydrogen-Powered Hypercar Revealed At Paris

Alpine has unveiled the Alpenglow HY6, a hydrogen-powered concept car that builds upon the success of its predecessor, the HY4. This latest iteration boasts a significantly more powerful hydrogen V6 engine, delivering double the power of its four-cylinder counterpart. While primarily designed as a racing prototype, Alpine hasn't ruled out the possibility of a production version.

The centerpiece of the Alpenglow HY6 is its twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine. Developed in-house by Alpine, this powertrain produces an impressive 730 horsepower and 770 Nm of torque. The engine operates exclusively on hydrogen, stored in three high-pressure tanks. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox.

Beyond the new engine, the Alpenglow HY6 features subtle exterior refinements. These include additional intakes on the hood and a redesigned rear deck with a transparent engine cover. The overall design remains striking, with a carbon fiber body, futuristic lighting, and a wraparound greenhouse.

Alpine is actively advocating for the inclusion of hydrogen-powered racecars in the 24 Hours of Le Mans starting in 2028. While the Alpenglow HY6 is initially conceived as a racing prototype, the company has hinted at the potential for a production model. Alpine's design chief has even confirmed that a production version was always part of the development plan.

Although specific details about the Alpenglow HY6's underpinnings are limited, it is likely based on the Ligier LMP3 chassis used in the rolling prototype of the HY4. This foundation provides a solid platform for further development and refinement.
