BYD's latest innovation, the Qin L DM-i, has arrived. Launched alongside its twin, the Seal 06 DM-i, at an event in Xian, the Qin L boasts a range of impressive features and marks the debut of BYD's advanced fifth-generation DM system.

The Qin L belongs to BYD's Dynasty series, known for its aesthetics inspired by Chinese design elements. Measuring 4830 mm in length, 1900 mm in width, and 1495 mm in height, it's slightly wider than its twin, the Seal 06. Both share a 2790 mm wheelbase, offering ample space for passengers. The front fascia features the character Qin prominently displayed, underscored by a chrome bar and a large grille below. Interestingly, the Qin L retains traditional door handles, a design choice that sets it apart from some modern trends. A strong waistline accentuates the car's profile, flowing from the front fenders to the rear doors. The rear light cluster draws inspiration from traditional Chinese knots, creating a visually striking element.

Stepping inside the Qin L, the influence of Chinese landscape paintings is evident in the design philosophy. The interior prioritizes a clean and uncluttered layout compared to the Seal 06. Physical buttons surrounding the gear selector provide easy access to vital controls. A dominating presence is the rotating 15.6-inch central infotainment screen, complemented by an 8.8-inch LCD instrument screen. Standard features include 6 airbags, mobile phone NFC key access, automatic air conditioning, one-touch window control for the driver's side, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a minimum of six speakers. Higher-spec models offer additional comfort and convenience features like a panoramic sunroof, a DiPilot L2 driving assistance system, an electric adjustable seat for the front passenger, a dashcam, upgraded sound system, and heated and ventilated seats.

The true innovation lies under the hood. The Qin L showcases BYD's fifth-generation DM system, a plug-in hybrid technology designed for optimal efficiency. It utilizes AI energy consumption management to achieve impressive fuel economy figures: 2.9 liters per 100 kilometers (NEDC mode) and 10.7 kWh per 100 kilometers (CLTC mode).

The core of the system is a 1.5-liter engine paired with an electric motor. Lower-spec versions offer an 80 km (CLTC) all-electric range thanks to a 10.08 kWh battery and a 163 horsepower electric motor with 210 Nm of torque. Higher-spec models benefit from a larger 15.874 kWh battery, extending the all-electric range to 120 km (CLTC). These versions also boast a more powerful 217 horsepower EHS160 motor delivering 260 Nm of torque. When combined, the gasoline engine and electric motor provide a comprehensive driving range of up to 2,100 km (CLTC).
