Cadillac has unveiled a significantly redesigned XT5 in China, showcasing a model that is a major step forward compared to its U.S.-spec counterpart. The new XT5 boasts a more aggressive and modern exterior design, with a wider grille flanked by split lighting units and adaptive anti-glare high-beams. The side profile features taut bodywork, a "floating" roof, and stylish 20- or 21-inch wheels. At the rear, a heavily stylized hands-free power liftgate with an integrated spoiler, a dual exhaust system, and vertically connected taillights add to the overall appeal.
The redesigned XT5 is larger than its predecessor, with increased dimensions in length and width. It also offers improved ground clearance for enhanced off-road capabilities. Inside, the cabin draws inspiration from the Lyriq, featuring a spacious interior with premium materials and advanced technology. A 33-inch curved display, a 126-color ambient lighting system, and semi-aniline leather seats with adjustable backrests provide a luxurious and comfortable driving experience.
Other notable interior features include a panoramic sunroof, a floating center console, a wireless smartphone charger, wood and aluminum trim, and a crystal-like knob with a 3D Cadillac shield motif. For added convenience, the XT5 offers multiple storage compartments, a high-quality 15-speaker AKG audio system, and a next-generation digital rearview mirror with a larger field of view.
Under the hood, the XT5 is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system. This combination delivers a respectable 227 horsepower, according to China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. Power is transmitted to the wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission.
To enhance handling and performance, the XT5 features a twin-clutch all-wheel drive system that can distribute power to either wheel as needed. Additionally, an adaptive damping suspension system adjusts 100 times per second to provide a comfortable ride.
In terms of safety, the XT5 offers an impressive array of 22 active safety features, including adaptive cruise control, lane centering, automatic emergency braking, rear-cross traffic alert, side blind zone warning, and lane departure warning.
The redesigned XT5 is currently available in China, with pricing starting at ¥279,900 and going up to ¥339,900 for the top-of-the-line Platinum variant. While there is no official word on when the redesigned XT5 will be available in the United States, its impressive features and advancements suggest that it could be a significant contender in the luxury SUV market.
