Changan has officially unveiled the all-new CS75 Plus, previously referred to by its code name C928. Despite some reports labeling this as the fourth generation of the CS75 Plus, this is actually the second generation of the vehicle. The confusion stems from the fact that the earlier three versions were essentially the same car, originally launched in 2019, with only minor facelifts. In contrast, the newly unveiled model is a complete redesign, featuring significant upgrades in terms of exterior styling, interior layout, and overall power. The new CS75 Plus is set to hit the market in September, marking a fresh chapter for Changan's popular SUV.
One of the most striking features of the new CS75 Plus is its bold front grille, which is designed with a pattern that mirrors the V-shaped symbol of the Changan logo. Flanking the grille are large light clusters, which contribute to the vehicle’s commanding presence on the road. Additionally, an LED light strip spans the width of the grille, adding a modern and sleek touch to the car's front profile.
At the rear, the new CS75 Plus features a through tail light design, with the Changan logo prominently displayed in the center. The rear spoiler is positioned lower than expected, giving the car a unique rear-end appearance. Interestingly, the rear windshield appears somewhat smaller, contributing to the car’s distinctive aesthetic. The new model is noticeably larger than its predecessor, particularly when it comes to its wheelbase, which has been extended to 2800 mm from the previous 2710 mm. This increase in size is also reflected in the overall dimensions, with the new CS75 Plus measuring 4770 mm in length, 1910 mm in width, and 1695 mm in height.
Inside, the CS75 Plus boasts a cutting-edge triple-screen design that dominates the dashboard. This includes an LCD instrument panel and an entertainment screen for the front passenger, both of which are smaller than the central infotainment screen. However, all three screens are housed together in a single unit, with the central screen positioned lower for easy accessibility. The drive selector has been moved to a stalk on the steering wheel column, freeing up space on the center console. This newly designed console now features a dual wireless mobile phone charging pad, two cupholders, and a cubbyhole for additional storage. The multi-function steering wheel comes with a flat-bottom design for a sportier feel. High-end versions of the car will offer additional comfort features such as heated, ventilated, and massaging front seats. These seats are also equipped with a "zero gravity" function, allowing them to recline for maximum relaxation.
Under the hood, the new CS75 Plus will initially be offered with an internal combustion engine (ICE) only. The vehicle is powered by a new Blue Whale 1.5T engine, delivering a maximum power output of 189 hp and a peak torque of 310 Nm. This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission from Aisin. The SUV also features Level 2 (L2) driving assistance technology, which includes functions like lane-keeping assistance and APA 5.0 valet parking with a memory function, adding to the car’s advanced safety and convenience features.
The Changan CS75 Plus remains one of China’s top-selling SUVs, with around 244,800 units sold in 2023 alone. As of 2024, it ranks as the fourth best-selling SUV in the country. Despite its domestic success, the CS75 Plus has not been widely exported, a factor that Changan might seek to address with this new version. Additionally, there are rumors that a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version may be introduced in the near future, further expanding the car’s appeal both domestically and internationally.
