Chevrolet Brings Baojun Yep Plus to Brazil

Chevrolet, celebrating a century of automotive innovation in Brazil, unveiled a surprising addition to its lineup: the Spark EUV. However, this isn't a successor to the previous Spark EV, but rather a rebadged version of the popular Chinese electric SUV, the Baojun Yep Plus.

This strategic move leverages Chevrolet's partnership with SAIC-GM-Wuling, bringing a proven and stylish EV to the Brazilian market. While details like pricing and the exact launch timeline remain under wraps, the Spark EUV is expected to be one of five major model introductions planned for Brazil by 2025.

Sharing the Baojun Yep Plus's compact dimensions (3,996 mm long with a 2,560 mm wheelbase), the Spark EUV will solidify its position as Chevrolet's smallest offering. While the Baojun Yep Plus offers a range of body styles, including a three-door variant and even a pickup concept, Chevrolet has yet to confirm if these options will be available in Brazil.

Inside, the Spark EUV echoes the Baojun Yep Plus's modern aesthetic with a digital cockpit featuring dual 10.2-inch displays. Notably, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in the Yep Plus are developed by the renowned drone manufacturer, DJI, promising cutting-edge technology for the Spark EUV.

The Spark EUV is likely to inherit the powertrain from its Chinese counterpart, boasting a rear-mounted electric motor delivering 101 horsepower and a 41.9 kWh battery pack. This configuration enables a commendable range of 401 kilometers on the Chinese Light-duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).

Baojun Yep Plus

Perhaps the most compelling aspect of the Spark EUV is its potential affordability. Given the Baojun Yep Plus's competitive pricing in China (starting at ¥93,800 or approximately $12,900), the Spark EUV could offer a compelling value proposition in the Brazilian market.

This strategic move by Chevrolet demonstrates a willingness to leverage its global resources and capitalize on the growing demand for electric vehicles. By introducing the Spark EUV, Chevrolet aims to not only expand its product offerings in Brazil but also strengthen its position in the competitive electric vehicle market.
