This move mirrors Ford's recent endeavors in creating attention-grabbing, bespoke electric vehicles, such as the Mustang Mach-E 1400 Prototype, the F-150 Lightning SuperTruck, the SuperVan 4.2, and the newly introduced Mach-E NASCAR. Chevrolet's creation, the Blazer EV.R NASCAR, made its debut in anticipation of the Daytona 500, drawing parallels with Ford's electrifying creations.
While bearing the Blazer EV name, the Blazer EV.R NASCAR is a distinct entity, constructed upon NASCAR's Next Gen chassis. It features a 78 kWh liquid-cooled battery system that supplies energy to three six-phase electric motors, collectively producing a formidable 1,300 horsepower. This power is channeled to the tarmac through a programmable all-wheel-drive system, ensuring optimal traction and performance.
The prototype's design closely emulates the production Blazer EV SS, but with a heightened emphasis on track-ready performance. It is outfitted with extensive aerodynamic enhancements designed to maximize downforce and stability at high speeds. The front fascia, while retaining the Blazer EV's signature look, incorporates a more aggressive splitter to generate additional downforce. Chevrolet's design and engineering teams have also developed bespoke center-lock wheels for the prototype, shod with Goodyear Racing Eagle tires.
The rear of the Blazer EV.R NASCAR prototype is dominated by a substantial wing and a prominent diffuser. While specific downforce figures have not been released, it is evident that the car is engineered to generate a significant amount of aerodynamic grip.
Although the EV.R NASCAR prototype is a purely racing-oriented endeavor, Chevrolet remains committed to its consumer-focused electric vehicle offerings. The Blazer EV SS, the flagship model, is poised to arrive at dealerships shortly, boasting a power output of up to 615 horsepower and a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 3.4 seconds. Furthermore, the Blazer EV SS offers a commendable range of 303 miles on a full charge, all at a price point of $62,490, inclusive of destination fees.
