Citroen Revamps C4 and C4 X

Author: |

The Citroen C4 and C4 X models have received notable design updates, particularly with their front-end styling. The new look includes a refreshed approach to the headlights, now presented in a slimmer, boxier layout that gives the vehicles a modernized appearance. Gone is the traditional double chevron grille adorned with chrome, replaced by Citroen’s updated oval logo, which lends a fresh identity to the front fascia. Additionally, the bumper has undergone some modifications, adopting a more sculpted shape that emphasizes a sleek, streamlined look. The bumper’s design includes reduced plastic cladding and features an aluminum-style skid plate, contributing to a refined and robust aesthetic.

While the profile of the vehicles remains largely unchanged, the alloy wheels have been updated with new designs that complement the vehicle’s overall style. At the rear, the C4 benefits from an upgraded appearance due to redesigned LED taillights positioned just below the integrated rear spoiler. These taillights enhance the rear’s clean and cohesive look, giving the C4 a more polished finish. In contrast, the C4 X maintains its original rear-end styling, characterized by a longer, more aerodynamic tail. The subtle changes in the C4 X mainly involve updated Citroen branding. This continuity in design may be attributed to the C4 X’s relatively recent debut in 2022, a full two years after the launch of the C4.

Inside, both models offer minimal but meaningful upgrades. Citroen has introduced their Advanced Comfort seats, which now feature thicker foam padding for enhanced support and passenger comfort. The cabin also includes a fresh 7-inch digital instrument cluster, paired with the existing 10-inch infotainment touchscreen. While the C4 and C4 X compete in the compact vehicle segment, they are built on the CMP platform, a chassis architecture more commonly used by Stellantis brands for subcompact models. This setup helps deliver a more compact and efficient design while still offering ample interior space for passengers.

In terms of powertrains, the C4 and C4 X are available with both mild-hybrid and fully electric options. Additionally, select markets offer a purely internal combustion engine (ICE) variant. The mild-hybrid option includes a turbocharged 1.2-liter engine with power outputs of either 99 or 134 horsepower, supplemented by an additional 28 horsepower from an electric motor integrated into the six-speed automatic transmission. For those interested in fully electric options, the carry-over electric powertrains deliver either 134 or 155 horsepower. The former comes with a 50 kWh battery, offering a range of approximately 355 to 360 kilometers under the WLTP standard, while the latter is equipped with a 54 kWh battery capable of delivering a range of around 415 to 425 kilometers, depending on the vehicle body style.

Pricing details for these models will be revealed closer to their official release date, making them an exciting prospect for buyers looking for updated styling, advanced comfort features, and a choice of powertrains.
