FCA Recalls Over a Million Ram 1500 Trucks

Author: |

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has issued a major recall affecting a significant number of Ram 1500 pickup trucks. The recall, one of the largest of the year, involves 1,227,808 vehicles from the 2019 and 2021-2024 model years.

The issue stems from a software glitch within the anti-lock braking system. This malfunction can unexpectedly disable the stability control system, potentially posing a safety risk to drivers. While no accidents or injuries have been reported due to this problem, losing stability control on a large pickup truck at the wrong time can be dangerous.

The recall specifically targets current-generation Ram 1500 trucks. Drivers of affected vehicles may notice warning lights illuminating on their dashboard for anti-lock brakes, stability control, adaptive cruise control, or forward collision alert systems.

FCA is working to address the issue by updating the anti-lock control module software. This update should rectify the conflict that leads to the disabling of stability control. Ram dealers will begin notifying owners about the recall and scheduling appointments for the necessary software update.

This recall marks the 44th issued by FCA this year. While Ford currently leads all automakers in terms of the number of recalls, FCA and Ford are closely matched in terms of the total number of recalled vehicles. With this latest recall, FCA has had 3,897,071 vehicles affected by recalls, compared to Ford's 3,964,484. However, Tesla has surpassed both Detroit brands in terms of the total number of recalled vehicles, reaching 4,411,725. Two of Tesla's recalls this year have involved over a million vehicles each.
