Ford Recalls Maverick and F-150 Pickup Trucks

Author: |

Ford Motor Company has recently issued two recalls in the United States that affect two of its most popular pickup trucks: the Maverick and the F-150. While these recalls are unrelated, they highlight the brand’s ongoing efforts to improve vehicle quality and safety.

The more widespread recall involves the Ford Maverick. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 144,516 Mavericks are affected by a problem with the rear-view camera. In these vehicles, the camera display image may freeze while in reverse, potentially increasing the risk of a crash. Ford has identified the root cause of the issue as a software glitch in the Connected Touch Radios system that can cause a component in the rear-view camera image processing path to fail.

The affected Mavericks were manufactured between February 3, 2021, and November 28, 2023. Ford first became aware of the problem in mid-June after receiving customer complaints. While the company has not been made aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue, it has received numerous reports, including warranty claims, Vehicle Owner’s Questionnaires, and complaints filed with the NHTSA.

To address the problem, Ford dealers will update the Connected Touch Radios software in affected vehicles. Owners can expect to receive notifications about the recall starting on September 30.

The second recall involves a smaller number of Ford F-150 pickup trucks. Approximately 16,543 F-150s built between March 11, 2022, and July 23, 2022, are affected by a faulty parking lamp. In these vehicles, the parking lamp may flicker when the driver selects the ‘Position Lamp On,’ ‘Headlamp On,’ or ‘Automatic’ positions on the headlight switch. This flickering light does not meet federal safety standards.

Ford has received 368 reports of this issue in North America but has not been informed of any accidents or injuries. Owners will be notified of the recall starting on October 7, and dealers will replace the faulty LED Driver Module in affected vehicles.

These two recalls demonstrate Ford’s commitment to addressing safety concerns and maintaining high quality standards for its vehicles. As with any recall, it is important for owners of affected vehicles to be aware of the issue and to schedule service as soon as possible.
