Ford Updates Mustang Mach-E For 2024 Model

Earlier this year, Ford announced that the 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT would be their quickest electric vehicle to date, but they didn't provide many specifics on how or why it achieved that performance. Now, the automaker has revealed that software upgrades and a newly developed in-house electric motor are responsible for the increased capabilities, among other advancements.

By implementing new thermal modeling and control algorithms, Ford can offer a "Performance Upgrade" option for the Mustang Mach-E GT crossover that unlocks an additional 136 Nm of torque. This allows the EV to accelerate from 0-96 km/h in just 3.3 seconds, which Ford claims is quicker than both the Tesla Model Y Performance and the base Porsche Macan 4 Electric. Additionally, it can complete the quarter-mile in 11.8 seconds at 183 km/h.

Since the enhancements from the Performance Upgrade are entirely software-based, customers can select this option when purchasing the vehicle or add it later on. This flexibility enables drivers to opt for the extra torque whenever desired, providing an adaptable and customizable driving experience.

Ford engineers have also optimized the Mustang Mach-E's battery performance, enabling greater range and faster charging times. At DC fast charging stations, the crossover's batteries now recharge 20% quicker. For extended-range battery models, this translates to needing only 36.2 minutes to charge from 10% to 80% state of charge, which is 8.8 minutes faster than before. Standard-range battery models see a 5.7 minute improvement to reach the same charge level in 32.2 minutes.

When fully charged, the rear-wheel drive Mustang Mach-E Premium with the extended-range battery can now travel up to 515 km per EPA rating, a 32 km increase. The standard battery, rear-wheel drive Select trim also gains 20 miles for a 402 km range. The GT trim improves by 10 miles to 451 km, while the new Rally model has a 426 km range.
