The GAC Honda P7 electric crossover has officially launched in China, with a starting price of 199,900 yuan ($27,200). Its debut triggered immediate competition, forcing Dongfeng Honda to slash the prices of the P7’s sibling model, the Honda S7 SUV, by a substantial 60,000 yuan ($8,160). The GAC Honda P7 offers an impressive CLTC range of up to 650 km and a maximum output of 469 horsepower, making it a strong contender in China’s growing EV market.
Honda had originally created a new brand, called Ye, specifically for the Chinese market. Under this brand, two crossover models were planned: the S7, produced by Dongfeng, and the P7, produced by GAC. However, Honda ultimately decided to abandon the Ye brand concept, leading both vehicles to be marketed directly under the Honda name. The Dongfeng Honda S7 was introduced in early March 2025, while the GAC Honda P7 followed about a month later — notably at a much lower price point.
The design of the GAC Honda P7 closely mirrors that of its sibling, the Dongfeng Honda S7, featuring a similarly sleek curved roofline, flush door handles, and camera-based side mirrors. Nonetheless, GAC has made the P7 visually distinct by incorporating different headlights, taillights, and bumpers. Many observers believe that the Dongfeng model looks slightly more upscale. The P7 offers five exterior color options: purple, blue, silver, white, and black, appealing to a variety of customer tastes.
In terms of size, the GAC Honda P7 matches the Dongfeng S7 with dimensions of 4750 mm in length, 1930 mm in width, and 1625 mm in height, along with a 2930 mm wheelbase. When compared to the updated Tesla Model Y, the Honda P7 is slightly shorter but has a longer wheelbase, offering more interior space. The P7 comes standard with 19-inch wheels, while top-trim variants are equipped with 21-inch rims for a sportier look.
The interior design also shows strong similarities between the two models. The GAC Honda P7 features a 9.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a center console fitted with dual displays measuring 12.8 and 10.25 inches, respectively. A standout feature is the 41.9-inch augmented reality head-up display. The infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay, Baidu CarLife, and Huawei HiCar, providing a wide range of connectivity options. Other notable features include the Honda Sensing driver assistance system and a premium 16-speaker Bose sound system.
Performance-wise, the GAC Honda P7 is aligned with the Dongfeng S7. The entry-level version uses a single rear-mounted electric motor delivering 268 hp and 420 Nm of torque, powered by an 89.8 kWh ternary NMC battery, offering a 650 km CLTC range. The all-wheel-drive version significantly boosts performance, combining 469 hp and 770 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds, and offering a range of 630 km.
GAC Honda's aggressive pricing strategy disrupted the market, offering the P7 between 199,900 and 249,900 yuan ($27,200 to $34,010), undercutting Dongfeng Honda’s initial S7 pricing, which ranged from 259,900 to 309,900 yuan ($35,360 to $42,170). This surprising price gap highlighted the substantial markup on the S7 and pressured Dongfeng Honda to react swiftly. To stay competitive, Dongfeng Honda not only dropped the S7’s prices by 60,000 yuan but also introduced a complimentary benefits package valued at 27,388 yuan ($3,727), which includes five years of Honda Connect services, unlimited internet, and a free smart driving package.
