Geely Galaxy E5 Is The Latest Electric Challenger

Geely Galaxy E5 electric SUV is set to hit the market sometime in August, and it's already making waves. Expect to see it priced between 17,900 and 23,400 USD when it launches in China. But don't worry, global fans, this isn't just a China-only affair. Geely is planning to export the E5, with right-hand drive versions currently in the works. So, whether you're a left or right-side driver, there's a good chance you'll be able to get your hands on one soon.

The Galaxy E5 measures 4615 mm in length, 1901 mm in width, and 1670 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2750 mm. Buyers will have the option to select between 18-inch and 19-inch wheels, offering some customization in terms of appearance.

Inside the vehicle, the cabin is equipped with a separate LCD instrument screen and a head-up display for the driver, alongside a large central floating infotainment screen. The E5 utilizes the Flyme Auto car machine system, which has been developed in collaboration with Meizu, a company controlled by Geely. This system is powered by the Dragon Eagle-1 chip, the first domestically produced 7 nm automotive chip. Buyers will also be able to choose from three different interior color schemes, adding a personal touch to their vehicles.

The Geely Galaxy E5 features an 11-in-1 intelligent electric drive system. This innovative system integrates 11 key components, including motors, electronic controls, and reducers. It weighs 79.8 kg and occupies a volume of just 72 liters, boasting a comprehensive efficiency of up to 90.04%. The power consumption is impressively low at 11.9 kWh per 100 km, and the motor delivers a peak power of 160 kW. Additionally, the drive system employs an Infineon TC397 chip, which enhances communication efficiency and ensures a quick power response.

The E5 is built on the Geely Electric Architecture (GEA) platform, which is derived from the Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA). The GEA platform is versatile, supporting electric vehicles (EV), extended-range electric vehicles (EREV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), and green methanol powertrains. The E5 also features CTB (Cell-to-Body) technology, integrating the battery into the body to enhance structural rigidity. Moreover, it includes a G-TCS all-weather drive anti-skid system, which has enabled the E5 to achieve an impressive moose test speed of 78 km/h.

In terms of performance, the E5 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, and it can brake from 100 km/h to a standstill in just 35 meters. The top speed of the vehicle is 180 km/h. The E5 is also equipped with a 4-speed intelligent energy recovery system, which adjusts braking force in real-time based on vehicle distance, road congestion, and ramp information, ensuring a smoother and more comfortable ride.

The vehicle utilizes Geely’s self-developed Aegis short knife lithium iron phosphate batteries. The available battery pack sizes are 49.52 kWh and 60.22 kWh, providing CLTC ranges of 440 km and 530 km respectively.

Overall, the Geely Galaxy E5 stands out with its advanced technology, robust performance, and thoughtful design, positioning itself as a competitive option in the electric SUV market.
