Zeekr, the premium electric vehicle brand under Geely Holding Group, has unveiled tantalizing images of its forthcoming 007 GT, a stylish wagon variant of its popular 007 sedan. The images, showcasing the car amidst picturesque European landscapes and against the backdrop of quaint, church-like structures, hint at the model's intended market. While wagons once enjoyed widespread popularity in Europe, their dominance has gradually waned in recent years, giving way to the surging SUV segment. Nevertheless, the wagon body style still holds a significant appeal for a discerning clientele.
In a departure from its Chinese market strategy, where wagons have traditionally found limited traction, Zeekr will introduce the 007 GT in Europe under the moniker Zeekr 7 GT. The new renderings offer a glimpse of the wagon's distinctive design elements, including prominent roof rails and a gracefully sloping D-pillar that seamlessly integrates with the rear window. This elongated silhouette is expected to translate into enhanced rear passenger headroom, further enhancing the car's practicality.
While specific details remain under wraps, the 007 GT is anticipated to closely mirror the mechanical underpinnings of its sedan sibling. The 007 sedan, launched in China in 2023, boasts impressive dimensions: 4880mm in length, 1900mm in width, and 1448mm in height, with a substantial 2928mm wheelbase. Powertrain options are likely to include a long-range RWD configuration featuring a 100 kWh NMC battery pack, delivering an impressive 870 km range on the Chinese Light-duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). An AWD variant, boasting a formidable 475 kW dual-motor setup, promises exhilarating performance, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 2.8 seconds.
A key highlight of the 007 GT will be the integration of Geely's cutting-edge "Golden Battery" technology. This advanced battery pack supports an ultra-fast charging rate of 4.5C, enabling the vehicle to replenish 500 km of range in just 15 minutes when connected to a 500 kW DC fast charger. This rapid charging capability is underpinned by the vehicle's 800V electrical architecture.
Zeekr has announced that the 007 GT will make its market debut in the second quarter of 2024. Industry observers anticipate its official unveiling at the prestigious Shanghai Auto Show in April. Upon its launch, the 007 GT will face stiff competition from established rivals such as the Nio ET5 Touring and the Neta S shooting-brake, as well as other emerging electric wagon models vying for a share in this niche but increasingly competitive segment. Given the 007 sedan's starting price of 209,900 yuan (approximately 28,600 USD) in China, it is reasonable to expect the GT variant to be priced similarly or at a slight premium.
