The highly anticipated plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the HS3 compact SUV has finally been unveiled at the Hongqi Fan Festival in Changchun, China. Mark your calendars – pre-sales are expected to kick off this August!

The HS3 PHEV stays true to its gasoline-powered sibling in terms of design. That means you'll get the same bold look, dominated by the signature Hongqi waterfall grille that proudly displays the brand logo on the hood. The front fenders also sport the Hongqi emblem, leaving no doubt about the car's heritage. Whether you prefer a sportier look or a touch of luxury, you can choose between 19-inch or 20-inch wheels to suit your taste. The rear gets a sleek update with a unique through-type taillight design, and a subtle "PHEV" badge on the lower right to announce its eco-friendly credentials.

One thing's for sure – you won't be cramped inside the HS3 PHEV. The spacious interior boasts a symmetrical layout and a focus on clean air with "zero formaldehyde" materials. Slide behind the wheel and you'll be greeted by a multi-function steering wheel for effortless control, a crisp 12.3-inch digital instrument panel to keep you informed, and a massive 12.6-inch vertical touchscreen in the center console for entertainment and navigation. The air conditioning vents are cleverly integrated on either side of the touchscreen for a clean and uncluttered look. Tech lovers will be happy to know that a 40W wireless phone charger and a suite of intelligent driving assistance systems come standard, making every ride a breeze.

But let's talk about the real star of the show – the powertrain. The HS3 PHEV combines a 1.5T turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor, drawing power from CATL battery packs. While detailed specifications are still under wraps, we do know that the engine delivers a healthy 166 horsepower. The PHEV promises an impressive pure electric range of 115 km, perfect for emissions-free commutes. And if you need to go the extra distance, the combined range extends to a remarkable 1,100 km, making road trips a breeze.

This unveiling marks a significant step forward for Hongqi's commitment to electrification. Back in 2023, they launched their ambitious "All in New Energy" initiative, pledging to prioritize electric vehicles (EVs) in their future. This translates to all new technology and production capacity being directed towards EVs, with the exception of special-purpose vehicles.

Hongqi has set clear goals for the future. By 2025, they aim to sell a staggering one million vehicles annually, with new energy vehicles accounting for over half of those sales. And by 2030, they envision new energy vehicles becoming the driving force behind their sales, reaching a target of over 1.5 million units sold per year. It's clear that Hongqi is determined to become a leader in the electric vehicle revolution, and the HS3 PHEV is a compelling step in that direction. With its stylish design, spacious interior, and impressive electric range, the HS3 PHEV is sure to attract eco-conscious SUV lovers in China and beyond.
