Hongqi has officially launched the HS3 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) SUV, priced at an accessible $22,500. The HS3 PHEV is powered by a hybrid system that combines a 1.5T turbocharged gasoline engine with an electric motor. The 1.5T engine produces a maximum power output of 166 horsepower and a peak torque of 258 Nm, which matches the specs of the gasoline-powered version of the HS3. However, the electric motor adds a significant boost, delivering 188 horsepower and 280 Nm of torque. This combination enhances the overall performance while offering the added benefit of an electric driving mode. The vehicle is equipped with an 18.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack supplied by CATL, which provides an official all-electric range of 115 kilometers. When utilizing both the electric power and a full fuel tank, the HS3 PHEV boasts an impressive comprehensive range of 1,100 kilometers, making it a practical option for long-distance driving. Additionally, the vehicle supports a 3.3 kW external discharge function, allowing it to power external devices if needed.

In terms of dimensions, the HS3 PHEV remains consistent with its gasoline-powered sibling. It measures 4655 mm in length, 1900 mm in width, and 1668 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2770 mm. These dimensions position it as a compact SUV, offering a balance of space and maneuverability. Consumers can choose from six different paint colors, allowing for some customization in exterior appearance.

The exterior design of the HS3 PHEV follows Hongqi's signature family styling. At the front, the vehicle features a bold vertical waterfall grille with thin chrome strips, which are flanked by thicker chrome frames on both sides. The iconic vertical Hongqi logo stretches from the hood down to the grille, making the vehicle instantly recognizable. The headlights are split into two sections, while the daytime running lights have a C-shaped design, adding to the modern aesthetic. At the rear, the SUV maintains the through-type taillight configuration, with a PHEV badge on the lower right corner that signifies its hybrid status.

Inside, the cabin layout is largely unchanged from the gasoline model, featuring a 12.6-inch central control touchscreen and a 12.3-inch LCD instrument panel. However, the plug-in hybrid variant introduces a unique light blue color scheme in addition to the standard black interior. The cockpit is equipped with Hongqi’s self-developed Qisi 1.0 intelligent network connection system, which supports over-the-air (OTA) updates, ensuring the software stays up-to-date. Additional interior features include a 253-color ambient lighting system, dual wireless charging panels (40W + 15W), electric seat adjustments for both the driver (6-way) and co-pilot (4-way), front seat heating and ventilation, adjustable rear seat angles, a rear center armrest with a cup holder, and a sensor-operated trunk. Notably, the front seat ventilation and sensor-activated trunk are exclusive to the PHEV model, adding extra comfort and convenience for drivers.
