Hyundai and Genesis Step Up with No-Price-Hike Pledge

President Trump's sweeping tariffs are beginning to shake up various sectors of the economy, and the automotive industry is feeling the pressure more than most. One of the most significant changes is a new 25% tariff on imported vehicles, which is projected to raise car prices by thousands of dollars. This sudden increase has left the automotive market in a state of uncertainty and concern, prompting manufacturers to look for ways to ease the burden on consumers. In response, major automakers have started rolling out strategies to maintain customer confidence and keep vehicles affordable.

Among the companies taking action are Ford and Stellantis, both of which have introduced employee pricing programs in an effort to soften the financial blow for buyers. However, it is Hyundai and Genesis that are making waves with their bold price assurance initiatives aimed at countering the immediate effects of these tariffs.

Hyundai’s new program, aptly named Customer Assurance, is designed to offer stability during unpredictable times. The automaker has pledged not to increase the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) on any of its models between now and June 2. This move is meant to ease consumer anxiety, offering financial security and allowing buyers to make well-informed purchasing decisions without the fear of sudden price hikes. The timing is strategic, as car buyers have recently been rushing to dealerships amid economic uncertainty.

Randy Parker, CEO of Hyundai Motor North America, emphasized the importance of customer focus. He stated that the company’s decision to freeze prices reflects Hyundai’s dedication to supporting consumers during challenging economic conditions. He also referenced the brand’s strong sales performance in March and the first quarter of the year, suggesting that the new initiative is designed to maintain that momentum.

Hyundai also highlighted its extensive manufacturing operations within the United States. According to the company, this domestic presence provides the flexibility to respond efficiently to changing market conditions, ensuring customers continue to receive competitive pricing and the right vehicle options at the right time.

On the luxury side, Genesis, Hyundai’s premium brand, is implementing a nearly identical program called Genesis Cares. The initiative promises to maintain MSRPs across the entire Genesis lineup for the next two months. Genesis CEO José Muñoz explained that the goal is to reduce consumer uncertainty and provide price stability during a volatile period. He added that this price commitment is part of a broader effort that includes job creation and substantial investments in the U.S. market.

While Kia has yet to announce a similar plan, many industry observers believe it is only a matter of time before they follow suit, given the proactive stance of their corporate siblings.
