Ineos Unveils Its First All-Electric Off-Roader

Ineos has introduced its inaugural all-electric vehicle, named the Fusilier, marking a significant step towards electric mobility while maintaining an option for internal combustion engines. Following the Grenadier and Quartermaster, the Fusilier represents the latest addition to Ineos' off-road lineup and offers versatility with the inclusion of a range-extender engine for extended journeys beyond conventional charging stations.

Compared to its predecessor, the Grenadier, the Fusilier is slightly smaller and will exclusively feature electric motor propulsion. However, Ineos offers the option to equip the vehicle with a "small" gasoline engine, serving to recharge the batteries in scenarios where access to a charging point is unavailable. While this configuration is not groundbreaking, it has proven successful, as demonstrated by the Audi RS Q e-tron, which recently emerged victorious in the grueling Dakar rally.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Chairman of Ineos, emphasized the necessity of adopting a diverse range of powertrain technologies to facilitate decarbonization while ensuring the continued appeal of consumer-driven vehicles. He stated, "That is the reason we are offering an additional powertrain for the Fusilier, one that dramatically reduces emissions but has the range and refueling capabilities needed."

Ineos reveals that the Fusilier is built on a "bespoke skateboard platform," featuring a steel body with aluminum doors. Although specific performance metrics have not been disclosed, the company previously indicated that its electric platform could achieve up to 400 kilometers of range.

Similar to the Grenadier, the Fusilier has been developed in collaboration with Magna, based in Austria, renowned for its expertise in off-road vehicle manufacturing, including the iconic Mercedes G-Class. Magna's involvement extends to developing forthcoming electric off-roaders for VW's Scout brand.

The Fusilier will undergo rigorous testing, including trials on the demanding Schöckl mountain, before commencing production at Magna's facility in Graz. Ineos announced last summer its plans to launch the electric off-roader by 2026, underscoring its commitment to long-term automotive manufacturing.
