JAC Australia is set to significantly expand its product lineup with the introduction of six new models by the end of 2026, including a Ford Everest competitor, as part of its strategy to strengthen its presence in the Australian market. In a recent interview with local media ahead of the 2025 Melbourne Motor Show, JAC Australia Managing Director Ahmed Mahmoud shared details about the brand's future plans. He confirmed that these new additions would be spread out over the next couple of years. "Six models on the way... it’s a mix of models and variants between now and the end of 2026," Mahmoud said.
While JAC has already launched the T9, Mahmoud revealed that the T9 Hunter PHEV would soon be available, with its global debut taking place just last week at the Melbourne Motor Show. The T9 Hunter PHEV is expected to arrive in early 2026, offering strong competition to rivals like the BYD Shark 6, Ford Ranger PHEV, and GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV. This powerful model boasts a 385kW/1000Nm engine and aims to offer an all-electric driving range of approximately 100 km. Additionally, a cab-chassis variant of the T9 will be introduced, which will make JAC's vehicles more accessible, providing a more affordable alternative to workhorse models like the Toyota HiLux and Isuzu D-Max.
For context, the current T9 model is available exclusively as a 4x4 dual-cab pickup, starting at $42,662 before on-road costs. Beyond these pickups, JAC also plans to launch a seven-seat rugged SUV based on the T9 ute platform, though the model's name has not yet been revealed. This new SUV is expected to take on competitors like the Ford Everest, Toyota Fortuner, GWM Tank 500, and Isuzu MU-X, as well as other tough, ladder-frame-chassis models such as the Toyota Prado. While specifics remain limited, JAC Global Vice General Manager David Zhang confirmed that this SUV would be arriving in Australian showrooms within the next 21 months.
Though details are still scarce, the SUV is expected to share similar powertrain options with the T9 ute, including a 125kW/410Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine and the aforementioned plug-in hybrid setup. There is also a possibility that the all-electric T9 EV ute, which was displayed at the Melbourne Motor Show, might make its way to Australian markets. Although JAC has not officially confirmed plans for the electric version, it is currently in Australia to gauge consumer and dealer feedback. The electric T9 features a 220kW/516Nm dual-electric motor system paired with an 88kWh battery, offering a 330 km WLTP driving range.
This expansion strategy shows JAC Australia's commitment to offering a broader range of vehicles, with a focus on electrification and hybrid technologies, aiming to cater to a variety of Australian consumers and set a competitive tone in the market.
