The highly anticipated Kia EV9 GT has finally made its debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, claiming its position as the most powerful three-row SUV in Kia's lineup. This impressive addition to Kia’s electric vehicle range stands out with a series of distinctive design and performance features, ensuring it captures attention both on and off the road.
Visually, the EV9 GT differentiates itself with unique 21-inch wheels and specific trim elements on the exterior. Inside, lime-green accents add a sporty flair, while bolstered sport seats upholstered in Alcantara enhance the cabin's premium feel. These upgrades emphasize the vehicle's focus on both performance and style.
Under the hood, the EV9 GT features an upgraded powertrain compared to the standard all-wheel-drive EV9. While the regular model boasts 189-horsepower motors on both the front and rear axles, the GT steps up its game with a 214-horsepower motor up front and a 362-horsepower motor at the rear. Together, they deliver a combined output of 501 horsepower, although Kia suggests that the motors reach their peak power at different speeds, accounting for the non-linear sum. Kia also notes that these horsepower figures are still being finalized, and there’s potential for further enhancements before deliveries commence. While the EV9 GT doesn’t match the power of Kia’s top-performing EV6, it still impresses with a 0-to-96 km/h time of 4.3 seconds—a remarkable feat for a vehicle of this size and weight.
Kia has also focused on ensuring the EV9 GT offers an engaging driving experience. The SUV is equipped with electronically controlled suspension that adapts to different driving modes, including Normal, Eco, Sport, and My Drive. For those seeking maximum thrill, the lime-green GT button on the steering wheel activates a dedicated performance mode, optimizing the SUV for spirited driving. Adding to the immersive experience is the Virtual Gear Shift (VGS) system, which replicates the sensations of a traditional combustion engine. Borrowed from Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 N, this feature simulates engine sounds, gear shifts, and torque adjustments, bridging the gap between the electric and conventional driving experiences.
While Kia has yet to reveal the EV9 GT’s official range, it has confirmed that the SUV supports the North American Charging Standard (NACS) plug and rapid DC charging. Using a compatible charger, the EV9 GT can charge from 10% to 80% in under 25 minutes. Pricing details remain under wraps, but it’s expected to cost slightly more than the GT-Line AWD, currently priced at $75,395. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2025, leaving enthusiasts eager to experience this performance-focused electric SUV.
