Kia is set to introduce a new compact SUV, the Syros, which will make its global debut in India on December 19th. This new model is a crucial part of Kia's "Kia 2.0 Strategy" for India, aiming to cater to the specific needs of Indian consumers while maintaining global appeal.
The Syros will slot between the Sonet and Seltos in Kia's lineup, offering a unique blend of minivan-like proportions and SUV styling. Its boxy silhouette, flat roofline, and nearly vertical tailgate give it a distinctive look, reminiscent of models like the Hyundai Casper and Inster. The LED headlights mounted on the bumper edges and the L-shaped taillights further enhance its modern and stylish appearance.
Inside, the Syros promises a "lounge-like" interior with futuristic features and an innovative seating arrangement. Key features expected to be included are a 10.25-inch infotainment display, powered and ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, a Bose audio system, multiple airbags, and advanced safety systems.
Under the hood, the Syros will be offered with two non-electrified powertrain options: a turbocharged 1.0-liter gasoline engine and a 1.5-liter diesel engine. Transmission choices will include a six-speed manual or an automatic gearbox (six-speed torque converter transmission or seven-speed DCT). While an electric version is rumored to join the lineup in the future, it will initially be launched as an internal combustion engine vehicle.
The Kia Syros is expected to launch in India in early 2025. Given that Kia has released global teasers for the SUV, there's a possibility that it may eventually be offered in other markets as well.
The Syros represents an exciting addition to Kia's SUV lineup, offering a unique combination of style, practicality, and technology. It will be interesting to see how it performs in the Indian market and whether it will eventually expand to other global markets.
