Leapmotor, backed by Stellantis, has introduced the new C16 in China, blending familiar aesthetics with options for extended-range or fully electric powertrains.

The crossover offers a range-extended version equipped with a 1.5-liter engine, a 28.4 kWh battery pack, and a rear-mounted electric motor generating 228 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. This configuration allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 8.5 seconds and achieve a range of up to 200 km on electric power alone in the CLTC cycle.

Alternatively, customers can opt for the fully electric variant, featuring a larger 67.7 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate battery pack. This model boasts an enhanced motor producing 288 horsepower and 360 Nm of torque, enabling a quicker acceleration time of 6.4 seconds for the 0-100 km/h sprint and an impressive range of up to 520 km on a single charge.

Following the footsteps of its smaller sibling, the C10, the C16 exhibits a design characterized by gentle curves, flush-mounted door handles, and LED lighting units. It also features a panoramic glass roof and rides on 20-inch alloy wheels. The dimensions measure 4,915 mm in length, 1,905 mm in width, and 1,770 mm in height, with a wheelbase spanning 2,825 mm. For context, the C16 is 94 mm shorter in length than the Kia EV9.

Higher-end variants offer additional luxury features such as a tri-zone climate control system, heated and ventilated seats in the front and second rows, a premium 21-speaker audio system, a 15.6-inch rear entertainment setup, and a Pilot Intelligent Driving Assistance System utilizing a lidar sensor.
