Lexus LBX Morizo RR Unveiled

Lexus has officially launched the production version of the LBX Morizo RR in Japan, only a few months after the concept was first introduced. This subcompact SUV's high-performance flagship model boasts a three-cylinder engine borrowed from the GR Yaris hot hatch, infused with additional luxury elements.

Much like the GR Yaris, the LBX Morizo RR undergoes extensive modifications on the TNGA-B architecture, with Lexus referring to it as a "dedicated platform." The car is powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, the same powerhouse found in the GR Yaris and GR Corolla. This engine generates an impressive 300 horsepower, mirroring the output of the facelifted GR Yaris. Drivers can choose between a six-speed manual gearbox or an eight-speed automatic transmission. Regardless of the transmission choice, power is delivered to all four wheels through an electronically controlled full-time all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. Lexus claims that the LBX Morizo RR can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds.

Key features of the LBX Morizo RR include the Response-Enhancing Damping Structure (REDS) on the front lower arms and an upgraded braking system, which contribute to sharper driving dynamics. Lexus has also made specific improvements to reduce noise and vibration, setting the LBX Morizo RR apart from its Toyota counterparts.

Aesthetically, the Lexus LBX Morizo RR retains the boldness of its January 2024 concept, with a subtle dark chrome treatment replacing the previous yellow grille stripe. The Morizo's custom body kit adds a touch of aggressiveness, with redesigned bumpers featuring significantly larger air intakes. Body-colored fenders and side skirts emphasize its assertive stance, while new 19-inch forged wheels complete the look. These modifications are not merely cosmetic; they also enhance cooling and aerodynamics.

Inside, the LBX Morizo RR swaps comfort-oriented seating for a pair of aggressive sports seats. Aluminum pedals invite a spirited drive, while Alcantara inserts and red contrast stitching add a motorsport-inspired touch.

Lexus has already begun taking orders for the LBX Morizo RR in Japan, with the first deliveries scheduled for August. Both the automatic and manual versions start at approximately $41,700, a price point that may surprise some given the subcompact SUV segment. However, this is no ordinary Lexus.

For those seeking an even more exclusive experience, Lexus offers a limited-run "Bespoke Build" version of the Morizo RR, limited to just 100 units. This special edition includes extensive personalization options, such as yellow brake calipers. The Bespoke Build will be available through a lottery system, with a starting price of $42,203.

Unfortunately, Lexus does not plan to sell the LBX in the United States, so the chances of seeing it on American roads are slim. However, other global markets, including Europe and Australia, are likely to receive the Morizo RR edition within the next year.
