Toyota and Lexus made a big stir last week when they teased 15 electrified automobiles. They are part of the company's plan to launch 30 electric vehicles by the end of the decade, covering a wide range of vehicle types. Lexus is on track to become a BEV-only brand in Europe, North America, and China by 2030, and globally by 2035, according to Toyota's media briefing on battery EV strategy. Let's take a closer look at the concept automobiles that were featured in the announcement, as they preview future production versions.
Lexus teased a number of items, including six that were concealed in shadows, albeit not all of them were. According to the image, Lexus is developing two wagons and a four-seat convertible to expand its inventory.
The three electric vehicles were photographed to the left of Lexus' upcoming two-seater hypercar.
The unidentified car is adjacent to the UX, NX, probably the updated RX, what appears to be the next-generation GX, and a sedan that looks like a new IS or ES on the left side of the lineup.
Lexus has been said to be working on a smaller SUV/crossover for several years. According to recent speculations, a Lexus version of the Toyota Yaris Cross B-SUV might be on the way. The UX, which was released in 2018, is currently Lexus's smallest SUV, with an electric edition expected in 2019. The Lexus UX is built on the GA-C platform, which also supports a number of Toyota products such as the Corolla, Corolla Cross, and C-HR.
There is little information on the brand's new cars, however, the RZ 450e, an upmarket version of the Toyota bZ4X that Lexus also teased today, will appear next year, kicking off the brand's electrification efforts. The company also unveiled an electric hypercar with a range of nearly 700 kilometers.
Lexus intends to be an all-electric brand in Europe, North America, and China by 2030, thus any ICE-powered product for those countries has a very simple timeline.
Lexus didn't say when many of these cars will go into production, and a lot might change between now and 2030.
