Mahindra & Mahindra, the Indian automaker, has joined the ranks of manufacturers offering black-themed special editions with the introduction of the Scorpio-N Carbon Edition. This special edition celebrates the impressive milestone of 200,000 Scorpio-N SUVs sold in India. However, despite its name, the Carbon Edition does not feature any actual carbon fiber trim, instead focusing on blacked-out aesthetic elements.

The Mahindra Scorpio-N, launched in 2022, quickly gained popularity in the Indian market. This ladder-frame SUV serves as the successor to the original Scorpio, which has been in production since 2002 and continues to be sold as the Scorpio Classic. The Scorpio-N, however, boasts a new platform, modern design, and updated technology features.

The Scorpio-N Carbon Edition embraces the now-common trend of blacked-out special editions, a popular strategy employed by automakers worldwide to add a touch of exclusivity and visual appeal. The exterior is exclusively available in a Metallic Black shade, complemented by smoked chrome accents that replace the standard chrome trim found on the regular Scorpio-N. The 18-inch alloy wheels are finished in Piano Black, while the roof rails feature a Dark Galvano finish. The headlights and taillights also receive a slightly smoked treatment, further enhancing the vehicle's sinister appearance.

Inside, the Carbon Edition features black leatherette seats with contrasting stitching, creating a sporty and premium ambiance. Notably absent are any real or faux carbon fiber accents, with smoked chrome inserts adding a touch of refinement instead. The Carbon Edition is exclusively offered in a three-row, seven-seater configuration and is based on the higher-specification Z8 and Z8L trims. This means that features such as the 8-inch infotainment system, sunroof, and 12-speaker audio system are included as standard equipment.

The Scorpio-N is available with two engine options: a 2.0-liter gasoline engine producing 197 hp and a 2.2-liter diesel engine generating 173 hp. Both engines can be paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The gasoline version is exclusively rear-wheel drive, while the diesel variant offers the option of four-wheel drive for enhanced off-road capability.

The Mahindra Scorpio-N Carbon Edition is priced between $22,000 and $28,500 in India, depending on the chosen powertrain and configuration. This represents a slight premium of $230 compared to the equivalent trims of the standard Scorpio-N. The Carbon Edition caters to buyers seeking a more distinctive and exclusive appearance, capitalizing on the popularity of blacked-out styling themes. While the lack of actual carbon fiber trim might disappoint some enthusiasts, the overall aesthetic enhancements and comprehensive features of the Carbon Edition are likely to appeal to a wide range of buyers in the Indian SUV market.
