Mazda CX-5 Gets a Value Refresh for 2025, Including Lower Starting Price

Mazda isn't messing around when it comes to offering a compelling package in the crowded compact crossover segment. Hot on the heels of the new CX-50, they're giving the tried-and-true CX-5 a refresh for 2025, with a clear focus on making it an even more attractive buy, especially for budget-minded drivers.

The biggest news? Affordability takes center stage. Mazda's bringing back the entry-level 2.5 S trim, which means you can snag a CX-5 for a starting price of $28,570. That's a sweet $730 less than last year's base model, making this feature-packed crossover even more accessible.

Don't let the "base" label fool you. This 2.5 S trim packs a punch for the price. Under the hood sits a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine churning out a respectable 187 horsepower and 252 Nm of torque. It's connected to a smooth-shifting six-speed automatic transmission and a standard all-wheel-drive system. This setup delivers a balance of efficiency and capability, returning an estimated 26 mpg city, 30 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined.

Inside, you'll find comfortable cloth seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel that feels great in your hands, and a whopping 10.25-inch infotainment system that seamlessly integrates with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Plus, you get push-button start, a decent four-speaker sound system, and Mazda Connected Services to keep you connected on the go.

Safety is a priority for Mazda, and the CX-5 comes loaded with driver-assistance features that would make even a seasoned driver feel confident. We're talking about fancy stuff like radar cruise control with Stop & Go that maintains a safe distance for you on the highway, rear cross traffic alert that warns you of unseen vehicles backing out, and even a system called Advanced Smart City Brake Support with Pedestrian Detection that automatically brakes for pedestrians if you don't react in time. There's even blind spot monitoring and lane keep assist to keep you centered and confident on the road.

Now, the updates for other trims are more targeted. The Carbon Edition gets some tech upgrades with wireless charging for your smartphone and wireless connectivity for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. If you love parking like a pro (or just avoid it like the plague), the Premium Plus trim adds front and rear parking sensors for extra peace of mind, along with a 360-degree camera system that shows you everything around the car – no more parking lot fender benders!

It's worth noting a few housekeeping changes. The CX-5 2.5 S Premium trim has been dropped from the lineup, and the price of the CX-5 2.5 S Premium Plus has been adjusted to a more competitive $35,200, down from $36,500. However, it's important to remember that the old CX-5 2.5 S Premium started at a slightly lower price point of $33,900. Other trims see price adjustments of $600 or $650, with the Turbo variants holding steady.

The 2025 Mazda CX-5 is all about offering more value for your money. With a lower starting price, a well-equipped base model, and some targeted upgrades to other trims, Mazda is making a strong case for itself in the compact crossover segment. The CX-5 is set to hit dealerships later this summer, so keep an eye out if you're looking for a stylish, safe, and feature-rich crossover that won't break the bank.
