After much anticipation, Mazda finally unveiled the 35th Anniversary Edition of the iconic Miata at the Fuji Speedway in Japan. While full details were not immediately released, the event showcased both the soft-top and RF hardtop versions of the special edition.

Exclusively available in Artisan Red, a triple-layer paint previously seen on Mazda's rear-wheel-drive SUVs, the 35th Anniversary Miata boasts a striking exterior. The hardtop model features 17-inch wheels, while the soft-top version rides on smaller 16-inch alloys. Both models feature a beige fabric roof and interior, reminiscent of the NB Special Edition released in the early 2000s.

Inside, the red-over-tan interior theme extends to the air vent bezels, door cards, and even the key fob. The 35th Anniversary logo is embroidered on the headrests and floor mats, further distinguishing this special edition. While the previous 30th Anniversary model featured Recaro seats, the 35th Anniversary edition opts for standard seats, suggesting a more comfort-oriented focus.

Although specific details about the suspension and brakes are yet to be confirmed, the 35th Anniversary Miata may not include the Brembo brakes and Bilstein dampers found in the previous special edition. Regardless, production will be limited by time rather than a predetermined number of units.

Mazda has confirmed that each car will be individually numbered, and there are no plans to artificially cap production. Shigeki Saito, the Miata's Program Manager, stated, "We don't have a limited quantity because we want to deliver to everyone who wants it." A special plaque on the right side of the car will indicate its position in the production sequence.

The unveiling of the 35th Anniversary Miata also brought news of the ND generation's continued development. Despite being a decade old, Mazda has hinted at the possibility of more special editions in the future. The MX-5 Miata RS, showcased earlier this year, is one such example of a track-focused version with performance upgrades.
