Great Wall Motor's Haval brand has recently unveiled an official image of the upcoming new Haval H7 SUV. This model, distinct from the existing Haval H7 available in overseas markets (which corresponds to the Haval Second-Generation Big Dog in China), has been officially declared by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in October 2024.
Intriguingly, the new Haval H7 appears closely related to the existing Haval Xiaolong Max. Zhao Yongpo, General Manager of the Haval brand, has hinted at this connection, suggesting that the new H7 could be a significantly upgraded version of the Xiaolong Max, slated for launch in 2025.
Powering the new Haval H7 is GWM's advanced Hi4 technology, incorporating a sophisticated plug-in hybrid system. This system seamlessly integrates a 1.5L naturally aspirated engine, model GW4B15H, with a potent electric motor. The engine delivers a maximum power output of 114 horsepower.
A crucial component of the hybrid system is a 27.54 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, enabling an impressive pure electric range of 126 kilometers under the CLTC standard. For comparison, the current Haval Xiaolong Max utilizes the same GW4B15H 1.5L naturally aspirated engine, but with a slightly smaller 19.27 kWh battery pack. This configuration provides a WLTC-rated pure electric range of 83 kilometers.
The new Haval H7 boasts substantial dimensions, measuring 4780mm in length, 1895mm in width, and 1725mm in height, with a generous wheelbase of 2810mm. The interior is designed to accommodate five passengers comfortably. In comparison, the existing Haval Xiaolong Max, positioned as a mid-sized SUV, has slightly smaller dimensions: 4758mm in length, 1895mm in width, 1725mm in height, and a 2800mm wheelbase.
The Haval Xiaolong Max currently retails in China within a price range of 159,800 to 179,800 yuan, which translates to approximately $21,800 to $24,600 USD. The pricing of the new Haval H7 is yet to be officially announced, but it is expected to be competitively positioned within the segment.
The introduction of the new Haval H7 signifies a significant step forward in Haval's product strategy, leveraging its advanced hybrid technology and building upon the success of the Xiaolong Max. This new model is poised to further solidify Haval's position in the competitive Chinese SUV market and potentially expand its global reach.
