New Renault Austral Teased

Renault has revealed fresh inside photos and announced that the Austral will be unveiled on March 8th at 9:30 a.m. CEST.

While we've previously had a peek at the cabin, the fresh images get a closer look at the cockpit. The inside is already significantly more sophisticated than its predecessor's cabin, and owing to softer materials, it should feel nicer to touch as well.

The Austral sports a cushioned soft cover with a matte finish instead of a hard dashboard. Authentic wood trim that has been treated using the Japanese maki-e process is also available to buyers.

The LED ambient lighting on the dash extends to the door cards, which include foam cushioning, as well as the rear doors. Renault went over and above to make the door cards more premium by using a fading textile material from black to light gray. To create a luxurious ambiance, the materials are blended with fine-grain synthetic leather. The center console, which has a hand rest with chrome accents, is also revealed in one of the teasers.

While the most recent images aren't very informative, a previous drawing revealed the crossover will have a high-tech interior with a digital instrument cluster and infotainment system that includes Google Automotive Services like Maps.

Overall, the interior style and layout of the new small crossover will be quite similar to that of the Megane E-Tech Electric.

While certain specifics are being kept under wraps, Renault has officially stated that the Austral will replace the Kadjar and begin on sale in the spring. The C-Segment crossover will have a length of 4,510 mm and will be built on the CMF-CD3 platform.

The Austral will be powered by a "petrol hybrid-only" engine lineup consisting of a 1.3 TCe engine with 12V mild hybrid technology and a 1.2 TCe unit with 48V mild-hybrid technology. Renault claims that these engines will produce up to 197 horsepower.

Renault will unveil the Austral during an online-only event.
