The EM90 is the first-ever minivan from the Swedish automaker, with sliding doors on both sides. Developed especially for Chinese consumers, the all-electric vehicle has a range of over 450 miles and is dubbed the EM90. Given that it is essentially the Zeekr 009 dressed up in a Volvo outfit, its external measurements should be similar to those of the Zeekr 009 at 5,209 mm long, 2,024 mm wide, 1,867 mm tall, and 3,205 mm wheelbase.
The Volvo EM90 features an aero-optimized design and rides on 19- or 20-inch wheels. Its front fascia has been changed in comparison to the Zeekr 009. It gets redesigned headlights that are modeled after the EX90 electric SUV's and a more subdued lighted "grille". The minivan's heritage is evident from its profile, but to better fit with Volvo's design aesthetic, the back has been gently altered with new taillights that extend onto the pillars.
The EM90 has three rows of seating in a 2+2+2 arrangement, making it a mobile office on wheels as much as an opulent family vehicle. A 15.6-inch screen that can be used for business or entertainment video conferences drops from the roof and is compatible with multiple third-party apps and mobile screen projection.
There is no denying that the Zeekr 009 and EM90 were designed with a strong Scandinavian influence thanks to their sleek, minimalist cockpits. The EM90's retractable screen is only one of many smart surfaces and multifunctional displays that set the stage for a range of in-cabin scenarios.
The EM90 comes standard with a comprehensive array of advanced driver assistance technologies that make use of a wide range of sensors such as high-definition cameras, surround view cameras, millimeter wave radar, and ultrasonic radars.
An electric motor at the back provides 268 horsepower, enough power for a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. With a staggering 536 horsepower and a 4.5-second sprint, the Zeekr 009 boasts a significantly more powerful dual-motor AWD arrangement than the Volvo EM90, which is currently limited to RWD exclusively.
In less than 30 minutes, a large 116-kWh battery pack can be charged from 10% to 80%. Although it is in the CLTC, the maximum range is stated as 738 kilometers. The zero-emission minivan offers bidirectional charging, just as the EX90, to power up other cars or household equipment.
Volvo claims that preorders for the EM90 are now being accepted in China. As previously stated, the new EM90 will only be sold in China, and the first customer deliveries are anticipated to happen soon. Volvo's first-ever minivan will retail for a whopping 818,000 yuan, or about $114,000 depending on the exchange rate.
