Hyundai has introduced updates to its i20 N Line, but the revisions are so minor that crafting the press release likely consumed more time than implementing the modifications themselves. However, amidst these alterations, one prominent change seems to represent a step backward.

Before delving into the specifics of the update, it's essential to revisit what the i20 N Line stands for, starting with the "N" designation. N Line serves as Hyundai's counterpart to Ford's ST-Line, Audi's S-Line, and Mercedes' AMG-Line. These models feature interior and exterior styling cues akin to full-fledged Hyundai N performance cars but lack the performance attributes, as well as the associated efficiency and insurance penalties.

In terms of aesthetics, the i20 N Line manages to mimic the appearance of the genuine i20 N hot hatch when stationary, perhaps even surpassing it by omitting the overtly flashy red pinstripes found on the true N variant. Internally, the N Line exudes a convincing sporty ambiance with robust seats, perforated leather adorning the N-branded wheel and shifter, and accents of red on the controls and upholstery stitching.

The refreshed iteration retains all these desirable features. However, the notable alteration comes in the form of the grille, which now adopts a more conventional egg-crate pattern, forsaking the distinctive chequered-flag effect of its predecessor. The rationale behind Hyundai's decision to swap out a mildly intriguing grille for a more mundane one remains unclear, unless it was prompted by complaints from i20 N buyers who found the resemblance between the N Line and their own car too close. Regardless, the consensus seems to lean towards the previous design being superior, though overall, the N Line maintains its visual allure.

Additional modifications include a fresh set of 17-inch alloy wheels and the incorporation of multicolor ambient lighting within the cabin. Furthermore, upgrades in LED technology have been applied to the map, interior, and sun visor lights. Notably absent from Hyundai's announcement are any mentions of under-the-hood enhancements, indicating that the i20 N Line retains its 118 horsepower 1.2-liter mild-hybrid four-cylinder engine, which necessitates 10.1 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. In stark contrast, the true N variant boasts a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine generating 201 horsepower and achieves the same speed in just 6.2 seconds.
