Rolls-Royce Spectre EV Debuts

The 2024 Spectre, the first electric vehicle produced by Rolls Royce, has been unveiled. The official unveiling of the Spectre, as the luxury brand's first battery-powered model is now known, marks the start of an all-electric era for Rolls-Royce.

The Spectre, which has a massive 2,975 kg weight and a generous 3,210 mm wheelbase, is constructed around an aluminum spaceframe that incorporates the enormous battery to make the coupe 30 percent stiffer than any previous Rolls Royce.

Although it features the widest grille ever put on a Rolls from the factory, the Spectre's design isn't noticeably different from other RR products. 22 LEDs softly illuminate that grille, and a Spirit of Ecstasy figurine with improved aerodynamics is mounted above it. With a drag coefficient of 0.25, the Spectre is Rolls' most aerodynamic model in company history.

The powertrain configuration hasn't been disclosed by the manufacturer, but we do know that the top output is a respectably low 577 horsepower and that the luxury coupe should reach 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds with its 900 Nm of torque.

The company is keeping very quiet about the technical specifications, including the size of the battery pack, but given that the batteries weigh 700 kg individually and allow the Spectre to travel 520 km on electricity despite its bulk, we can assume they are well over 100 kWh.

The Spectre will not prioritize performance or efficiency. Instead, it will provide the most luxurious driving experience possible, and the new Planar suspension will undoubtedly aid in this mission. This suspension system has the ability to decouple the vehicle's anti-roll bars, allowing each wheel to act independently, providing an even smoother ride and reducing high-frequency ride imperfections when the road surface quality is poor.

The Spectre's cabin is the most technologically advanced of any Rolls-Royce product to date. The optional Starlight Doors feature, which incorporates 4,796 illuminated dots in the interior, is one of the highlights. The front seats, which were inspired by British tailoring, are also new for the Spectre.

The Spectre is a luxury coupe with a price tag that will fall somewhere between the $460,000 Phantom limo and the $350,000 Cullinan SUV, though we won't know the exact figures until closer to the end of 2023 when the first vehicles are expected to be delivered to their owners. In the fourth quarter of the following year, the first customer deliveries are anticipated.
