Mini has broadened its John Cooper Works (JCW) lineup by introducing a new JCW trim for the gasoline-powered Cooper S, which echoes the sporty features found in the electric model. While this new JCW trim adds some eye-catching visual upgrades to the Cooper S, it does not enhance the vehicle's performance compared to the standard version. Instead, it serves as a precursor to the fully-fledged JCW variants—both electric and gasoline-powered—that are set to debut soon.

The Cooper S JCW Trim continues to use the standard turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, delivering 201 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. Power is directed to the front wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission, allowing the car to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 6.6 seconds. This trim, although visually distinct, maintains the performance specifications of the regular Cooper S.

Pricing details for the Cooper S JCW Trim have not yet been announced. This trim is essentially a precursor to the more powerful and dynamic full JCW model, which is expected to launch this fall. While the JCW Trim enhances the Cooper S with sporty visual elements, the upcoming full JCW model will feature significant performance upgrades, including a more potent 2.0-liter engine and an improved chassis designed for a more engaging driving experience.

Externally, the JCW Trim is distinguished by several sporty enhancements. These include a more aggressive front splitter and a new rear diffuser that complement the existing sporty body kit. The grille is finished in high-gloss black and features the John Cooper Works emblem, while the aero components, roof, and mirror caps are also finished in black. Unique to this trim are the exclusive 17 or 18-inch alloy wheels and black brake calipers with the JCW logo. Despite its visual similarities to the full JCW model, this trim will have subtle differences, such as distinct wheel designs and a modified rear spoiler.

Inside the Cooper S JCW Trim, you’ll find new sport seats upholstered in a combination of synthetic leather and multicolored knit fabric with red accents. The dashboard features a checkered flag-inspired knitted surface in black and red, echoing the sporty theme of the interior. The rest of the interior is similar to the standard Cooper S, including the circular OLED infotainment display and the customizable Mini Experience Modes.

In addition to the gasoline-powered JCW trim, Mini has also confirmed the development of a JCW version of its electric hatchback, which will sit above the existing Mini Cooper SE JCW Trim in the lineup. This expansion highlights Mini’s commitment to offering performance-oriented options across both its electric and gasoline-powered models.
