Skywell Unveils Intriguing Electric Hatchback at Paris Auto Show

At the Paris Auto Show, China’s Skywell introduced a captivating new electric hatchback, the Skywell Q, which stands out from the typical crossovers that dominate the market. Many car enthusiasts may find themselves wishing for more models like this, as it offers a refreshing change from the ubiquitous SUV designs that seem to be launched almost weekly.

The Skywell Q is a compact yet stylish vehicle, measuring 4,297 mm (169.1 inches) in length, 1,836 mm (72.2 inches) in width, and 1,536 mm (60.4 inches) in height. Its design language is assertive, starting with an aggressive front fascia that features an LED light bar and a blacked-out lower grille. When viewed from the side, the car’s profile is striking due to its dramatic creases along the doors and small vertical slits behind the front wheel arches, reminiscent of the Porsche Taycan. These design elements lend the Q a bold and distinctive look that’s both modern and slightly sporty.

At the rear, the car showcases side skirts and a rear diffuser that mimics the look of forged carbon fiber, adding a touch of sportiness. Aero covers on the wheels improve the car’s efficiency, while an LED light bar on the back enhances its sleek, futuristic aesthetic. These design choices make the Skywell Q both eye-catching and aerodynamically optimized, reflecting a focus on both style and performance.

Inside, the Skywell Q is minimalist but far from basic. The cabin includes a panoramic glass roof, creating an open, airy feeling, along with customizable ambient lighting and bright orange accents that add a pop of color. The centerpiece of the dashboard is a large 15.6-inch infotainment display, which provides a user-friendly interface for drivers. Passengers in the rear are also treated to some entertainment options, thanks to a small touchscreen. Additionally, the car boasts an eight-speaker Metz audio system, promising a rich sound experience for all occupants.

Under the hood, the Skywell Q will be available with two battery pack options, though the specifics of their capacities have yet to be disclosed. However, Skywell has stated that the top-tier battery pack will allow for a range of over 482 km on a single charge. The car is powered by a single electric motor that drives the front wheels, delivering an output of 201 hp. Skywell claims that the Q can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds—a remarkable figure for a front-wheel-drive EV with this level of power. However, this claim will need to be put to the test once the car hits the roads.

Fast charging is another appealing feature of the Skywell Q. With DC fast charging capabilities, the flagship model’s battery can be recharged from 10% to 80% in just 20 minutes, making it convenient for long-distance travel and reducing charging downtime significantly.

Skywell has not yet announced all the markets where the Q will be available, but the company has confirmed that it will reach the UK by the third quarter of 2025. Skywell’s commitment to quality is underscored by a 7-year, 100,000-mile general warranty, complemented by an 8-year, 155,000-mile warranty specifically for the battery. This level of support should give potential buyers confidence in the longevity and reliability of the new electric hatchback.
