This new addition to the Smart lineup features a unique design characterized by its distinctive front end, which includes “oblong headlights” connected by a narrow illuminated strip, alongside a series of oval-shaped lights. The design is further complemented by plastic body cladding and a streamlined body profile, giving the crossover a modern and sleek appearance.

In terms of dimensions, the Smart #5 measures 4,705 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. For context, this makes it slightly shorter in length than the Mercedes GLC, which is 13 mm longer but has a 28 mm shorter wheelbase. The #5 is designed with practicality in mind, boasting 34 storage compartments, a front trunk (frunk), and a large cargo area that can accommodate up to 1,530 liters of luggage, making it highly functional for various needs.

The crossover's design includes flush-mounted door handles and aerodynamically optimized wheels that feature floating center caps. The vehicle's sleek profile is enhanced by a flowing greenhouse and prominent D-pillars that display the Smart logo. For those who desire a more rugged appearance and capability, the Summit Edition offers additional features such as a roof-mounted light bar, side steps, and a ladder to access the roof carrier. This edition also includes underbody protection, an electric trailer hitch, and an external storage compartment, adding to its versatility.

Inside, the Smart #5 continues its upscale presentation with premium materials such as leather upholstery, oak wood trim, and zero-gravity front seats that can recline up to 121 degrees for ultimate comfort. The cabin is further enhanced by a 256-color ambient lighting system and a 21-speaker Sennheiser audio system, contributing to a luxurious driving experience.

The interior is dominated by advanced technology, including a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster and dual 13-inch displays. The central display serves as the infotainment system and features an interactive lion avatar named Leo, as well as a sophisticated generative AI voice assistant that can provide precise answers to a wide range of queries. Additionally, a 25.6-inch augmented reality head-up display provides real-time information to the driver. Rear passengers are not left out of the luxury experience; they enjoy heated seats with adjustable backrests, which can be folded down to create a king-size, queen-size, or single sleeping space within the cabin.

While Smart has been reticent about specific powertrain details, it has confirmed that the #5 will be equipped with a 100 kWh battery pack, offering a range of over 740 km according to the CLTC cycle. The crossover also features 800V technology and a super-charging capability that allows the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 15 minutes. Although Smart has not detailed the exact power outputs, information from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology suggests that the crossover will offer a rear-mounted motor with options for 335 hp or 358 hp. Additionally, a dual-motor all-wheel drive system will be available, combining a 221 hp front motor with either a 358 hp or 416 hp rear motor for enhanced performance.
