Subaru released details about its next generation of engines. The Japanese auto maker is going to use a new four-cylinder boxer engines on its cars from 2021.
The first engine is a 1.5-liter direct-injection unit which is going to replace the current 2.0-liter naturally aspirated engine. The new 147 hp engine will be used on Impreza sedan and hatchback and VX.
Next engine is a 1.8-liter direct-injection turbo boxer with around 265 hp. There is also a new 2.4-liter direct-injection turbocharged engine with two different power outputs. While the high output versions power is not released but the lower output is expected to have 276 hp. These engines will be offered in the Liberty sedan, Outback, Forester, Levorg and WRX sedan.
Subaru is also working with Toyota to develop a new 2.4-liter engine for the BRZ and 86 coupe. The most powerful engine on Subaru’s new lineup is a 2.4-liter unit with power around 330 to 400 hp for the WRX STi sedan.
Subaru is also working hard on the electric power units and will release its electric model range by 2030.
