The most recent spy photos from Europe show the 2022 Ford Everest testing out in the open. Surprisingly, the prototype retains the thick vinyl stickers. Furthermore, the headlights are considerably better camouflaged than in our prior encounter. The Everest nameplate has been in use since 2003, and it is essentially the SUV version of the Ranger. However, we last spotted this variant of the test car at Ford's headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan.
Round yellow labels found on the SUV have been alleged by spy photographers to suggest that the car is a hybrid, which makes sense given that the new Ranger will apparently also get a plug-in hybrid option.
Because the Everest shares a chassis with the Ranger, we anticipate that its powertrain options will differ by market. However, it is likely that it will be equipped with a twin-turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel and a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6 with a 10-speed automated transmission, at least in some countries.
Rumors claim that the new Everest and Ranger will employ a 2.3-liter gas engine with a plug-in hybrid system to meet ever-stricter pollution regulations, which, if true, will allow Ford to offer it in the European market as well. The remainder of the range will use the same powertrains as the new Ranger.
The 2022 Ford Everest is scheduled to be presented sometime next year, most likely in the first half, and by then, we should know more about it, thanks to upcoming spy pictures and, who knows, perhaps some leaks.
