The Toyota Hilux Rugged X, Nissan Navar Pro-4X Warrior, Mazda BT-50 Thunder, and VW Amarok W580X all demonstrate that Australia is a welcoming market for pickup trucks with more power. None of the aforementioned pickups can compare to the more expensive second-generation Ford Ranger Raptor in terms of power and heavy-duty suspension. However, it appears like Toyota is preparing something to compete with its American rival.
Toyota's Australian subsidiary is developing a new "Apex" Hilux pickup model with numerous off-road-oriented upgrades. Toyota Australia announced: To further improve the Hilux lineup, Toyota intends to replace the Hilux Rugged X with a new Apex off-road model. In due order, specifics, including the launch time, will be released. The Hilux Rugged X is a variant tailored to the Australian market, with special features added by Toyota Australia.
A steel bumper with a protective bullbar and an integrated LED light bar, a snorkel, plastic fender add-ons, rock sliders, larger tires, and perhaps a heavy-duty suspension are anticipated for the new Hilux Apex.
Under the hood, a tweaked version of the 2.8-liter turbodiesel engine will probably be used. The engine can produce 201 horsepower in stock form.
Further details will be published after the car becomes production ready.
