At last, the Toyota GR Super Sport debuts on 15th January. This time its not just a concept. It is the production version of it. Toyota Gazoo has teased this even on its tweeter. This Super Sport Car was presented for the first time in concept form in June 2018. Although the real one has some defers but they are not significant.
With 1⃣1⃣ days to go until we launch our new Hypercar, let's take a look at some specs 🏎️💪🏋️@FIAWEC @24hoursoflemans #TOYOTAGAZOORacing @Michelin #PushingTheLimitsForBetter pic.twitter.com/FXlDvk0uJK— TOYOTA GAZOO Racing WEC (@Toyota_Hybrid) January 4, 2021
In 2018 Toyota showed us a mid-mounted 2.4-liter twin-turbo V6. This super car with the hybrid assistance had a total of 986 hp output. Now what we know about the produced car is a 671 hp output. This vehicle has the same hybrid system and also connected to both axels. Toyota GR racer weighs 1,030 Kg and has Michelin tires.
What we don’t clearly know, is that how many of this racer’s kind would be built. As the regulation reveals, in the LM Hyper car class in the World Endurance Championship companies should build at least 20 examples of their vehicle which are suitable for roads situation. Till now Toyota said nothing about the other samples.
What we can see more about this super sport car, is the removable roof panel. Since having no roof would distribute the aerodynamics of car, don’t expect a roof race car in the racing piste. But maybe this facility is considered for the road-going versions. This car has started its test from October 2020 in France and as the driver, Jose Maria Lopez, claimed to the Motorsport.com, even the first test was so successful.
The Toyota GR Super Sport debut would start at FIA WEC 1,000 Miles of Sebring on March 19.
