Toyota and Lexus previewed 15 electric vehicles earlier this week, including two-door sports cars and a pickup truck, with more on the way over the next decade. The Micro Box, a tiny and square urban runabout, was on show in the rear corner. Unfortunately, nothing is known about the Micro Box or the other Toyota vehicles displayed. The company was scant on information, and these aren't coming out next year. By 2030, Toyota expects to release 30 electrified automobiles.
The Micro Box appears to be ideally suited for use in a city setting. The little electric box, on the other hand, displayed more than a prospective product design. At the base of the car's windscreen, there was a QR code that led to the iconic Rick Astley song "Never Gonna Give You Up."
Toyota is investing $70 billion in its electrification initiatives, with the two companies aiming to sell 3.5 million battery-powered electric vehicles globally each year. It's a bold move, and one we'll keep an eye on as the business prepares to launch the bZ4X, but many of the goods shown this week might alter before going into production, assuming they go into production at all.
