Toyota Revives the Corolla FX with a Modern Twist

Gear up for a nostalgic trip down memory lane! Toyota is reviving the iconic FX nameplate for the 2025 model year, introducing the Corolla FX Special Edition. This car injects a dose of sportiness into the popular Corolla lineup, drawing inspiration from its namesake, the 1987 Corolla FX16.

While the original FX16 was a rear-wheel drive hot hatch, the 2025 iteration takes a more subtle approach. Based on the front-wheel drive Corolla sedan's SE trim, it adds a sprinkle of sportiness without sacrificing practicality. Under the hood, the familiar 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine from the SE trim remains, producing 169 horsepower and 205 Nm of torque. While there's no power boost, Toyota has tweaked the chassis to enhance the driving experience. Lowering springs and a revised electric power steering tuning aim to deliver a more engaging feel behind the wheel.

Visually, the Corolla FX boasts a distinct identity. A set of eye-catching 18-inch satin black alloy wheels with machined accents sets it apart from its siblings. A new rear spoiler adds a touch of aerodynamic flair. Color options are limited but impactful: Midnight Black Metallic, Ice Cap, and Underground. Whichever shade you choose, the FX comes with a contrasting black roof, mirror caps, and badging, further emphasizing its sporty demeanor.

The most significant upgrade lies within the cabin. The standard 8-inch infotainment touchscreen has been swapped for a larger and more user-friendly 10.5-inch unit. This improvement will also be implemented in other 2025 Corolla trims. The FX also benefits from a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a wireless charging pad, both borrowed from the top-of-the-line XSE trim. Safety remains a top priority, with the Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 ADAS suite keeping you protected on the road.

2025 Toyota Corolla FX Special Edition

The first 2025 Toyota Corolla FX Special Edition models are expected to arrive at dealerships in the fall of 2024. Pricing information will be revealed closer to launch, along with the rest of the 2025 Corolla lineup details. So, if you're looking for a Corolla with a touch of personality and a hint of history, the FX Special Edition might just be the perfect fit.
