The upcoming Volkswagen ID.UNYX will be manufactured through Volkswagen Anhui, a joint venture between the German automaker and Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group. Volkswagen holds a 75% stake in this partnership, and the UNYX will be produced at the same facility responsible for the Tavascan. However, unlike the Cupra, which is destined for global markets, the VW variant will be exclusively available in China. Serving as the sibling to the Cupra Tavascan, the ID.UNYX shares many exterior design elements with its counterpart.
Built on the VW Group's MEB platform, the sleek crossover bears a resemblance to the Tavascan but incorporates its own distinctive touches. Notably, the front fascia has undergone a complete redesign, featuring new headlights, an LED light bar, and updated gloss black accents and air intakes. Unique wheels crafted by VW designers further enhance the vehicle's sporty appearance.
Similar to the Cupra, the rear of the ID.UNYX makes a bold statement with an LED light bar, an illuminated VW emblem, and streamlined taillights. Images released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology also reveal certain ID.UNYX models adorned with gold badges, though it remains uncertain if this will be a standard feature across all variants. Additionally, a gloss-black rear bumper adds to the crossover's aesthetic appeal.
The ID.UNYX will be offered in two versions: an entry-level model equipped with a 228 hp electric motor powering the rear wheels, and a flagship variant boasting a dual-motor configuration featuring a 228 hp rear motor and a 107 hp front motor, resulting in a combined output of 335 hp. Both iterations will have a top speed of 160 km/h.
While an official launch date for the ID.UNYX has yet to be announced, speculation suggests it may make its debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April.
